I have been steadily working
on this colorful blanket
for the last few weeks
Before work, after work
While at the salon getting
my hair done
On my lunch break at work
and......
its finally done
and
I
LOVE
how it turned out
Its a birthday present
for my granddaughter
and I'm thinking she
will love it too
(she already accidentally saw it in the back of my car and said "Nana thats a pretty blanket")
With the yarn I have left
I started this
It going a lot faster
than having to
count the stitches on each row
and make sure that
the pattern I chose
works with the stitch count
I cant wait to give it to her
but I will be sad to see it go
Its one of my favorite projects ever

Wow! I love your blanket! I have been dying to do one of these (my knowledge of stitches is very limited) as a fabulous sampler blanket! I recently found the rich world of crochet in blogland and took it back up! I fell in love with hexagons I saw on memerose's site and made a shawl with all kinds of motifs I found in blogs by turning them into hexagons and joining them! I guess that would be what one sweet lady termed a 'sampler shawl'. This stripey blanket reminds me of a CAL littlewoolie has posted. It would be a perfect way for me to learn so many new crochet stitches, and would serve as a sampler blanket! One big question. What yarn did you use? I have only one brand of yarn stocked up so far (premiere ever soft, acrylic, med weight) and it is so soft and the colors are vibrant with a sheen, but this collection lacks variety in very crucial colors..greens for example. I've tried one other brand, but it looks flat next to the Ever Soft I am using it with. I think the yarn you are using would work well with what I already have, and I could get the shades of colors desperately needed so I can finally start on a blanket of my own. I just love both your stripey blanket and the grannies you are making with the yarn remnants!
ReplyDeleteMaschelle I used I Love This Yarn from Hobby Lobby except the orange is Red Heart. I think the Hobby Lobby yarn the best. Its soft and works up beautifully.
ReplyDeleteI did do a larger blanket that I started as littlewoolie's CAL but havent finished that yet. This one was inspired by that CAL but I just made it up as I went along.
I found it useful to place a stitch marker every 20 stitches and move them up as I went along so I had the same number of stitches in each row. Some of the patterns you will need to add or subtract a stitch but I adjusted it as I went along. Hope this helps...go for it!!

I am so impressed with the fact that this blanket is an original and NOT the CAL I will be following! What a glorious thing you have made! Do you have a list of what stitches you used? Or suggestions for choosing stitch variations? I would love to do this, but I think I'd get overwhelmed and would end up with something very boring....or complely insane.
